Summary: Detoxifying our body helps to feel and look healthier. These days many commercial products contain unhealthy ingredients, chemicals, and hormones.
How to detoxify your every day
With lifestyle-related diseases on the rise, it’s no surprise that the world is experiencing a shift. Multiple types of research confirm that we are now exposed to at least 70,000 different chemicals in commercial use. These chemicals are toxins and are present in the air we breathe, the food we eat. We, at The Temple, are seeking to lead healthier lives and replace chemicals with natural products whenever it is possible.
A simple decision towards changing your lifestyle can drastically transform your life and overall health. For that reason, we come up with a comprehensive list of tips that can improve the quality of your life. These tips are not only promoting good health but also encourage the natural detoxification of your body.
1. Drink plenty of water
Water is your best friend when it comes to detoxing and cleansing your body. Your body eliminates harmful substances and toxins through sweat and urine. Purchase a large, recycled water bottle that you can carry around with you wherever you go. It will encourage you to drink at least 2-3 liters a day. If you are the type that doesn’t like the taste of water, try infusing it with fruits or vegetables.
2. Choose what you consume with care
Some fruits and vegetables, depending on how they were grown, may be exposed to chemicals. Ensure that you choose your products with care, read your labels and understand what everything means to them.
3. Eliminate sugar and artificial sweeteners from your diet
Sugar has been linked to obesity, diabetes and some cardiovascular diseases. Hence, it goes without saying that sugar is very harmful to our bodies. Health experts recommend cutting sugar out to improve your general well- being. Use honey or maple syrup as a sweetener and avoid refined white sugar all together. While you are detoxifying your body try to avoid sweets altogether. It might be a bit difficult in the first few days, but once your body is used to it, you will feel much better.
4. Avoid processed food
Processed food will only have you consuming and introducing more toxins into your body. Cut them out of your diet, and you will be surprised at how much your health will improve. Processed products typically contain high amounts of preservatives, salt, MSG and other nasties that you should avoid.
5. Learn to cope with stress
Stress encourages the release of the hormone known as cortisol. It has many unwanted side-effects such as gaining weight, lack of sleep, heart problems just to name a few. We recommend exercising at least three times a week while the other four days still climb the stairs at work, walk the dogs, or walk to and from work. An active lifestyle helps to stay relaxed while you also sleep better at night. Practice yoga, mindfulness, and meditation; both are great ways to relax.
6. Assist your liver
Your liver removes the harmful substances from your body. By avoiding alcohol, excessive sugar, fat and salt while drinking a lot of water, you can help your liver flush out the toxins.
7. Eat pickles!
We are not joking! Fermented food such as pickles is high in probiotics. They contain the right type of bacteria that helps boost your body’s detoxification process as well as your immune system and overall health.
8. Detoxifying your colon helps to flush out chemicals and toxins
There are different methods of colon cleansing, ensure you do your research and talk to your practitioner or visit a certified colon hydrotherapist before you commit to a program.
9. Switch to organic, natural, and environmentally friendly personal care and household products
Products, either for household or personal, are infused with dangerous chemicals. Using them only increases the number of toxins in our bodies. To lower your exposure to harmful toxins, use organic and natural products. Again, we are just repeating it, but read your labels, and if you are not sure what things mean, pull out the good ol’ dictionary and read. If it sounds too complicated, hence most probably you shouldn’t be using it anyway.
10. Eat organic meat and fish
Hormone-infused meat and fish products have been shown to have a multitude of adverse side effects. Don’t try to save money on buying cheap meat, instead of default to more vegetables and only purchase organic products.
Detoxifying should be a regular step in your health routine and once you know what works for you, ensure you do it once a week, once a month or even once a quarter. Taking a break from your regular habits helps to de-stress your body and feel better.
